Wanted: Rear Valance for a hatch.

Post by docchevron »

Anyone happen to have, or know where I can get, a new rear valance, complete rear panel, for a BX hatch please?
Mine has dissolved. I know they were available until fairly recently, but all the usual suppliers have said "no".
I also remember DLM had one I think, but that was a long time ago.
Cash waiting etc etc, ta.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Have you tried a main dealer stock search. Somebody's probably got one gathering dust on a shelf somewhere in a warehouse that resembles Area 51.

bloody hell! Great link, thanks Bandit, no rear valance though...
Kitch, I fear G SEG's may be as buggered as mine, and ironically, the 5 scrappers, yep, they're all shagged too!
Might drop Matt a PM, cheers Tim.
Mark, yes, and although I was told there was in a dealer in Cornwall, nothing's come back yet...
Times getting short for the Mot, I could fabricate one I guess, althuogh I'd use 3MM plate since I have lots, but I'd like to try and repair ths one properly.. I quite like the old red shed. Will be getting some sills too..

I didn't think they had the part there but there was a list that seemed longer than the items shown in the piccy.
Mine is half shafted but could be repaired fairly easily I 'think' mate. You are welcome to it once I've taken her off the road

It's possible Chevronics may have a source - I believe they fitted 1 to Daisy last year. Mind you, depending on how yours really is, it may be more cost effective to repair what you've got.

I think Anne-Marie sourced the panel herself, so a PM might be fruitful.

Just had a thought

If it's still there, the rear panel on the GTi Auto in Harry Bucklands by Cheltenham looked in pretty good condition, although I'm not certain of the logistics of cutting it off the car there.

Erm, if I tell you I got rear ended many years ago, so replaced the entire boot floor, and the centre bit of the valance that was cut out of another car but left the outer extremes where the rear lights attach.. despite painting it all etc etc, the boot floor has parted company from remains of thevalance, the OS chassis leg has gone up through the boot floor and the rear bumper is held on with one solitary bolt since the entire thing is no more than fresh air!
Had I actually noticed just how bad it had been getting some time ago I'd have fabricated some bits up and welded them in, but I fear there is so little left to stick anything to I'd be best off chopping the lot out and sticking a new one in.
I'll ask Anne-Marie too though, ta for the heads up!

Hi Chris, I confirmed, with Rob, that the vendor of the rear panel I bought at the National Rally auto jumble was Barry Annells.
(Rob didn't have the part I needed.)

Good luck

Hi Chris !
I opened up 'Neil's' link for the panels etc. which show the sills listed, however no stock levels or prices are shown !
So don't forget to check-out IMPERIAL CRASH-REPAIRS for a price comparison before placing your order (Also note they only have one O/S sill available)

If you'd only shouted up 18 months or so ago you could have had a superb shell+doors which was totally rot free and was ideal for someone to do a 'Re-shell' with (Which would have saved you a lot of time/effort in welding/fabrication and consumables too) , but unfortunately there was 'no room at the inn' so off it went to meet its maker (Which I only got £80 scrap value @ the time) it also had a complete working 1.7 N/A engine left in it with reconditioned injectors which had covered less than 50 miles too + a sweet BE3 gearbox too

Note the 'As new fuel filler neck ' I left on it too #-o and the rust/rot free bumper box section/back panel, it also would have come with the hatch-back which had absolutely no surface rust too !

Good luck with the rebuild of the Rear-end on your current ride !

:)

I'll check them out, thanks Richard.
I do have a car with a mint shell in stock (well, damn near mint, the only corrosion anywhere on it is atop the windscreen) but I think it would destroy the car really. I've done over a million miles in this one, so I want to keep as much of it as I can. It would lose something of itself if I reshelled it, although it would indeed be far easier to do that than weld it up..
I shall give Bourne a tinkle when Ig et around to it (been rather busy this last week) and see what they have, if not, I shall make from 3MM plate!
