I've owned and driven this car for nearly 10 years now and it has been great on fuel, never failed to start and done everything I've asked of it but all good things come to an end and now I've bought a newer diesel, I have decided (reluctantly) to sell. My mother loved the BX, claiming it was the only car in the family she could get in and out of but since her death, the poor old BX hasn't covered much mileage and now needs a new home. PLEASE NOTE: this is a 1900cc normally aspirated Diesel and NOT the 1700 Turbo! On the plus side... no turbo to go wrong, no EGR system, no silly DPF, no ABS brakes, no complex electronics.
This isn't a mint, one owner car - it's a workhorse past its 20th year but still brushes up quite well. There is a little surface rust coming through the back arches and inside one of the rear doors (see photo) but generally the car is sound and has never been welded. In all the time I've owned the BX, it has needed just tyres, an exhaust, glow plugs, 2 spheres, a clutch + cable and one battery. The timing belt was changed 5,000 miles ago but now a good engine service is due (oil/filters) The brakes have been checked and fitted with new front discs in living memory. At some point, the front seats have been swapped for Honda items - originality nuts take note. I think the engine has been swapped at some point because when I asked my local Citroen garage to see why the rev counter didn't work they reckoned the engine was from a ZX. There's a small pin hole in one of the rear lights - I have a small bit of insulation tape over that to keep it legal. Suspension takes a while to go up - the Citroen garage say that the strainer in the bottom of the fluid tank needs cleaning out but I've never bothered getting it done.
The road tax runs out at the end of April 2013 and the test expires this July 2013. I'm not looking for a fortune and would much rather give the car away than see it scrapped. BX fans - get bidding! On sale from bid #1 but PLEASE no zero rated bidders - unless you contact me and convince me your bid is genuine, it WILL be cancelled and do take note of the car's location (NE England). I can meet buyers at Durham train station, if required. Should be OK to drive 100 miles but I haven't driven that far in a long time. I will, of course, check all levels are OK before departure.
