Alternator question

Post by kiwi »

Looks like the TXD Diesel Alternator has developed a regulator fault. Yes I have had this checked out and charging between 13 and 15.6 volts is not doing the battery any good.

Will a alternator from the petrol 19s fit? Are the physical mounting points the same?

Would the 19TRS alternator throw out enough power or would the 19TZS aircon alternator offer more. Suffice to say will they fit?

IIRC the diesels have a lower output alternator, and the petrol ones should fit. Certainly I've mixed and matched before.

Looks like will give the fitting bit a try, save the inconvieniance of having it off the road. Better news from the Auto spaky was an ordinary diesel battery (his words) would fit. Saves by a European battery by nz$100. With Winter just around the corner not the time to put off a fix. Falt battery afte a frost no fun.

Probably a good idea to replace the battery anyway - if you've seen 15.6 volts across the battery then it could be a symptom of overcharging or the battery being knackered and going high resistance.

If there was 15.6 volts across the battery for any length of time and the battery didn't boil then it's definitely time to replace it. Generally speaking if the charge volts reaches 15v then it's time to be wary of using that battery through a winter.
