Just a quickie

Post by saintjamesy89 »

I'm sure I read somewhere that rear pads are the same for all BX's (except perhaps valvers), but can't find where i've read it! I want to do my rear brakes at the tech weekend (this weekend) and my rear pads haven't arrived yet, I have a spare set for the GT so could use those this weekend and put the pads I haven't received yet on the shelf for the GT.

Cheers :)

You're quite correct - they're the same for all models including valvers.

(Unless there's some weird mark 1 thing going on that I never knew about).

As Rob says, they are ALL the same irrespective of model. However, if you look for CX ones they fit just the same but have a bigger surface area using the whole disk surface. I always use them, especially when changing the disks at the same time, this increses rear brake efficiency and life.
I have zero patience for your tedium.

Very handy tip thanks Jay, i've got two new sets now so a wee bit late! But next time I rather like the sound of that.

Just to clarify my statement above (as someone's asked me for details).

BX pads are 53mm x 64mm (64 being the depth into the disc) this leaves a small ridge around the centre of the disc.

If you shop around for your pads you can find these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160508290734" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; CX ones which are 70mm deep and cover the full surface of the disc and fit just the same.

Interesting stuff Jay, i was always led to believe that CX rears were exactly the same as BX one's, clearly they both fit, but the slightly larger one's are better.
