Who's feeling brave? cheap GTi

Post by catsinthewelder »

Saw this on the Tat thread over on the brown forum and thought of you guys.

Will someone buy it please as it's too bloody close to me to ignore, I might even offer to run one of you from the station to the yard it's sat in if needs be (and you come when I'm not at work). I was just thinking this morning that I missed my white, stripy BX as well.

The interior shot with the conversion to an Audi steering wheel and Dashboard raised some interest until I realised the numpty must have got his photo's mixed up!

I don't think i've ever seen a white 8 Valve Gti before, the reg suggests that its a very early one? Got to be worth a look to see if its saveable?

It looks like you have to pay 40 pound before you can start bidding

Looks like a potential rust bucket if all the panels are corroded as per descritpion, but could aslo be a bloomn lovely BX when sorted - my favourite style GTi, early with those trims :D Stripes look good too.

It could potentially be a scrapper, but still worth getting hold of just for the parts if they aren't too brown crumbling looking. In 5 years time these will be the sorts of cars that we wished we'd made the effort to save :( or at least check over carefullly incase its a rescue or a cubing.

The 8v GTi was launches just after the Mk2 came out so could have been bought on a 86D plate, I remember our neighbour had a white one with a funky pin stripe, and the reg was D123TAL!

Just so. This auction lot spams me about 4 times a year trying to get me to sign up. Fine if they had a regular selection of things I want. Sadly not so, and a dead £40 I think. I am no lover of auctions at the best of times, especially when you cannot see the bidders. Mr Wall has a habit of coming in to push the price up. Also its pressure to make an unplanned purchase. I bet if that Gti was plonked as up for grabs £200, or what ever they think its worth, or near offer it would sell or get sensible offers as you would have time to check it out. Unless its a lemon. Since it takes a day to register to bid and £40 plus to achieve that status and its on an unknown reserve its rather doomed at 2 hours to go and no bids. Even sending an email to register interest is a performance.
Auctions, finger in the air selling with added cons. Stick a price on it!
