Well done CCC

Post by Thread Bear »

Armed with my Citroen Car Club members card I received my full discount from GFS Swindon for my bits and bobs with 5 spheres. So thats half my joining fee back already. Makes me feel better. They seemed surprised to see the card and had to check there was a valid deal. Not many later Citroens in the CCC round here, then. Chatting to the folk in there it seems there are two or three BX around Swindon.

Given up attempting to sort out private collection of the BX from Blackpool after van blow up and other sundry mishaps. Bit of pressure to get it uplifted - borrowed parking etc. So its being done professionally. Not such a cheap car now, nor as bad as it could have been, but you cannot win them all.
Van is scrap after looking at the engine, bummer. Definitely lost that one! I was never 100% happy with the thing and it was not as reliable as the old SOFFIM Ducatto (Citroen Boxer, different engine?) that did 2000 miles in Europe every 3rd week or so, as well as everything else, for 5 years, or replacement earlier LT35. Later, better?, lasted 12 1/2 years, two engines, three door handles, two locks, three indicator stalks, two control box thingys etc etc. Paint fell off. Not good quality and narry more than 10,000 miles a year in my 4 years ownership.

Hmm Auto BX, could be a mess in my hands!

Now there is an appropriate topic with respect to classic cars! I have seen a few hugely restored Trigger's Broom Brooms which then purport to be something very rare. Are they, when you threw most of it away in the restoration process? Not what you were getting at I know but... blah

GSF Swindon seem sensible enough not to fall for that but I was impressed with the lady of Punk hairstyle. All for a bit of free thinking. !!!---)))

Sadly for Citroen they no longer make a car I would wish to own. [-(

It's funny you should say that... That Traction Avant Roadster at the CCC National looked to be 95% new parts and I did wonder whether it could reasonably be called a 1939 vintage car or should be considered to be a reproduction. It is an amazing car and certainly carries the rare tag.

My first 2CV (1977 Club) ended up like that! I changed the bodyshell, seats, rear wings, hood, front axle arms, wheels, and bumpers. They guy who bought it from me then sent it into Frome 2CV's for a full rebuild. By the time they'd finished we worked out the only original part of the car was the rear axle tube.

There was also a Mehari going round the shows a while back with the owner claiming it was the earliest known. With a galvanised chassis and set of space frames, all new plastic panels, new seats, new hood and frame, and dyane running gear it could have been argued it was actually the newest!
