GT temp gauge in instruments

Post by B-Hive »

I had an idea today to convert the GT's dis-functioning oil level gauge into a more useful temperature gauge...

Rationalle being that the oil level gauge, even if it was working, is rather redundant if your car doesn't use any oil...besides which if it did use oil I think I'd be checking the level manually...

So Why not convert this needle to indicate engine temp, and also the warning light behind the needle would be useful as its bright and cannot be ignored....It will be interesting to see if the resistance range for the oil level metre is similar to that of a temp gauge..failing that I'm sure that a temp gauge needle could be crafted into the same position..

Anyway...just a thought...

Cold as the moon here right now,, but on the home stretch to Spring

If you find out what the respective resistance ranges are, you could add resistors in series and parallel to the sender to make it electrically match up. Gets more tricky if one is non-linear though...

I agree Mat, if it gets to that or needs LESS resistance then i'll experiment with a MK2 temp gauge head

Thanks Tim .(think I got the right name this time), are the clocks all separated or still in the whole cluster??
Why I ask is that I'm also needing a replacement speedo head, but thinking the shipping of the whole cluster might be exxy..not sure..

What Would you take for "the clocks"? to help me decide...

I really do need the speedo but as I have found MK2 heads are not the same..They fit but read very inaccurately after about 60kmh.. Besides which my odo went berserk and has stuck and clicks loudly which also causes the speedo needle to flick

Cheers

Hi Ash

Its a complete clock set in a grey surround I bought a few years ago for about £25? I think as a spare but have since bought a complete new speedo. It has MPH and k/mh on them.

Happy to post at cost. Would want to see the whole thing if at all.
