Feels like no PAS

Post by BX Bandit »

I was able to take the front end of Pidge off the axle stands this afternoon and gave her some citerobics to do. I have to say, testimony to low miles and Jays beautifully green renewed lhm the car goes up and down very smoothly, I know I'm going to treasure this car!

However, just turning the steering to move her a bit it became clear the PAS wasn't up to scratch, infact it felt as though it had almost none. I have two theories, one is that it's been since June that I drove a bx, so have I got used to the more modern lighter feel of my non BX car and forgot that a BX is heavier, or, I'm sure the HBOL says somewhere not to move the steering with he suspension on low......is this for any particular reason?

There are no lhm leaks, the susp goes up and down nicely. I've ruled out safety valve issues as the suspension works very well.

This leaves the pinion valve, fdv or ram. Any thoughts?

Did you find the steering heavy Jay? I remember promising you an onion valve, can't remember if I gave you one but was it for Pidge?

Could there possibly still be some air in the system which although letting the car rise up & down ok has made the steering firm? I also presume that you've checked the HP belt tension?

The onion was for the grey n/a but i sold it as was.

Didn't find it heavy at all, all mine have always felt the same give-or-take.

Fairly certain you can freely move the steering at any height, the HBOL might just be being cautious scratch...

I'd go with Matts suggestion above tbh, more pumpy pumpy uppy downy jiggly

Oh, the FDV filters were cleaned out during routine servicing, so unless it's got any crap in it since, they are almost certainly fine.

I did wonder about air but not sure it could of got in there in the first place.
Clean fdv filters Jay? Cool mate, that's saved me a job dude, it's something I've never touched in my history of bx ownership. Hopefully it's just my ickle brain playing tricks on me. Firing her up yesterday reminded me of how much I missed a bx, addictive they are!

Indeedy, pretty straightforward as long as you know which order the components go back in (or as i did, take pics!):

T'was done just before the wales trip 2011 so was only a few weeks before it came off the road.
