yes, quite exactly what the differences are is down to the age of the car, how its been driven in the past etc etc... the power delivery is slightly different with some preferring one over the other, not sure which though.

Yes, garret cool, kkk crap!

The kkk is much more progressive, giving a sluggish feel overall, but spooling up quicker
The Garett suffers more from lag, but gives a far more pronounced surge.

My first tgd turbo, Lucas injection with garrett turbo used to boost hard at 2000 rpm
My tzd turbo, Lucas with Garrett, used to boost hard at 3000 but was sluggish but progressive under 3000.
My current tgd turbo with Lucas and kkk feels the slowest of the three but will pull from lower down as the turbo spools up quicker. Whilst there is a surge of power at about 3000 - 3500, it's nit as pronounced as a garrett.
All that said, it also depends how the pump us setup to deliver on boost as the difference between my first tgd and tzd shows.

Garrett is a lot easier to adjust, if you should so wish ;) That's the main reason I put one on the Xantia engine when I installed it - didn't realise about power delivery differences as well!

Kkk shafts are 4mm in diameter, garret t2 are 6mm whereas the gt turbos are a 5 mm shaft. All less to get spinning! I suspect it's the kkk shafts ( or bearings rather) that fail before the garrett ones.
Some of the garrett t2 turbos fitted to the 1.9 xud or even the 2.1 xud are of similar turbine size, smaller shaft diameter and larger compressor, so compared to the original t2 turbos should be all gain on a 1.7. Be interesting to try. I have a pug 306 1.9 garret gt1549 of the same characteristics used on my xantia 2.1 but with the bx/306/xsara timc housings. I fitted it, but the angle of the exhaust flange was wrong, so I had to refit the original. I would of found it interesting to feel the difference.
Someone on here said they fitted a xantia turbo on as a straight swap, I'd like to know which variant of xantia and turbo.

so my current tzd using a lucas pump (which was fitted in a hurry and has never been timed up properly only on diesel knock) and what i suspect is a kkk goin by the flat-bang-flat theory ,pulls hard from 2250-3250 fairly slow on the spool up, could be improved by fitting a garrett for a smoother delivery? will this need adjustments to the fuel pump? will also need to get the timing set up right.

all my t/d's have had lucas pumps afaik have never had any probs with them i only changed mine @190k cos i found a nos on the bay for £40 bnib so why not. im sure it has a kkk turbo, will check later.

KKK is more racist.

My TZD feels like an on/off switch depending on what side of 2000rpm you are.
