Sphere replaced now side wont rise

Post by kiwi »

Whats happened is the nearside front sphere went rock hard so I went to replace it.

Firstly I did what I thought was correct unloosened the regulator screw and put suspension to low to remove pressure. That was my first surprise the sphere was under a massive amount pressure when I cracked it off lets put it this way a lot of mess. Once I got it off I can only describe it as a fizzy drinks bomb when tapped it on the ground a jet about 20ft shot out for a while, so yes knackered.

So I have replaced but now the wife reports the N/s front corner is slow to rise. Could the sphere have buggered the strut or the strut buggering the sphere? or something else?

Cars done 300,000kms spheres last checked 265,000kms

Sounds like it wasn't fully depressurised, was the car on LOW (and settled) when you undid the regulator screw?

In most cases, you just need to run through Citrobics to get the rest of the air out.
I have zero patience for your tedium.

I thought spheres which have burst made the sort of mess as described above? In which case there may be nitrogen in the lhm which is now in the system, so perhaps try bleeding the system or doing as per Jay's suggestion or both ;)

It seems to be ok when I tried it yet the wife reported the problem. I will find nice bit rough road that should shake the bubbles out....lol

I wouldn't have thought it would be easy to notice as the anti-roll bars are quite tough, but it could be a combination of a sticky strut and air. I would repeatedly release the bleed screw at minimum and maximum heights for a duration of about ten minutes. IE: Mix Citrobics with bleeding.

Won't the whole car coming crashing down to earth if you release the bleed screw when it's at max height...?

I must admit, i didn't think it was a good idea to have it on max height & then fiddle with pressure regulator? The air should purge when yo have it on low & you keep relasing the pressure regulator on & off for a few minutes.

On a BX, it does not drop when you release the pressure screw. I know it does on a GS

I'm not sure I'd like to test this theory...
