Nearly at 200000 miles but looks like it would clean up, a pair of bumpers would help!
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

Don't like the sound of that Bio Oil, however, if all the metal hydraulic pipes were changed, then it could be a good un. I like the bit about it being a bit noisey, welcome to XUD non turbo engines :)

I have ended up buying this…first foray into BX ownership. What have I let myself in for?!
I had a look at the the car prior to bidding as it is just a short cycle from me, the seller was a bit eccentric and seemed to be reluctant to show me the car at first as it was an ebay 'auction'. I assured him that it was within the rules that I could look at the car but was unable to give him an offer on the day due to unfairness to other bidders etc, even if I wanted to. After this I could hardly get him to stop.
The car was grubby to say the least and the seller continually apologised for this stating that he would put it through a full valet before any sale took place, the front seats in particular will need some attention or replacement. However the shell seemed solid in all the right places, boot floor, rear suspension mounts etc. The hydraulics worked well with no obvious leaks.
Thanking him for his time I came away feeling it would be worth a punt, what with tax until September and a MOT he told me was November (missing certificate, but would get a copy), what could possibly go wrong.
Annoyingly the auction finished at 2AM but got my max bid in set an alarm for 2 mins before the end won and straight back to sleep with a big smile.
Now this is where it all gets a bit odd, it was sold through the sellers PA, who held all the old service history, V5 and such. I contacted her the morning after the sale keen to arrange collection. I arrived at hers and she handed me an already filled out V5 with stamped addressed envelope, and c.£1500 of recipes from ParisRetro since 2010! She asked me to go collect the car from the seller after he had finished work in the evening. Once I had returned home I got a call from her saying that the car had developed a fault and would not be ready…..hmmm i asked her if she could elaborate but the seller had not told her anything. I called the seller, no answer. But then received a text from him stating that it had developed a slight fault and he was taking it to the garage to get fixed. His PA will contact me when the knew more.
I didn't want to let this lie so called the PA the next day for an update. Luckily for me the seller was there, it turns out he had heard a strange rattle that had not previously happened, however on the drive to ParisRetro it had 'sorted' itself during the drive, he did find out that the car had NO MOT, so was putting it through for me at no extra cost, unless it was going to be £1000's. Ok fair do's, bonus for me extra MOT months but I could loose this car if it will cost lots or is he trying to keep the car as he did not get the price he wanted (I doubt this he sounds genuine) but I do like to worry. So to settle my nerves I did a drive-by of ParisRetro today and it's at their workshop, so it checks out.
I guess I now just have to wait now…sorry for the ramblings/rant.

If I do ever get this i would be interested in those bumpers and gear knob. A new steering wheel would be hand too as it looks like it has been chewed by some sort of rodent.

That's a rather peculiar cause and effect. :? I could understand it rotting the rubber returns but the hp lines are steel so unless high water content in the bio should have been unaffected?

If they were plastic coated, how would they have known? Was a G pre plastic coated pipes? Maybe it was just the external corrosion that was usual for the earlier type of pipe? :?

Sounds like an offer to sell before expending any great effort to prep the car assuming it would not sell, or be bought for spares. So now the rush to catch up. I have just had a similar experience with a £200 Fiat Fiorino disabled converted Punto based car/van thingy. Not allowed to look but sold 'on the road'. I need no more hassle and my interest was to use it to move loads of bits from sheds to other sheds and then sell it on for £200 in about 6 months time!

Well you did say the guy was a bit eccentric  Fingers crossed it works itself out, occasionally there are good sellers out there who just don't want to sell a car with a fault that has suddenly appeared without getting it fixed 1st. I presume you haven't paid a deposit yet?

Hopefully......................but, when the final bid price is £421 and a new MOT + repairs added in at Garage rates, there's possibly little left of the sale price. Could be genuine, could be a ruse, only time will tell. Either way an anxious time for a buyer who's really set on having the car. :(

There are. I took a BX out for a spin the evening before collection only to discover there was a slight knock from a front drop link. I had a good used part in stock so I started to change it without bothering to remove the wheel. Put the spanner on it then decided to turn the steering for better access...next thing I know is the spanner has pierced the 10 mile old tyre!. So the morning off work and £50 down the drain on a tyre, but at least it didn't knock.

And then the seller complains on the forum that an indicator bulb had blown and the screenwash had stopped working!

I now finally have this BX! With 12 months MOT too :-).
Guna spend the next week or so bringing it back up to scratch, cleaning up the interior is first on the list as well a as a new accumulator sphere as tick time is low (8-9sec). Was thinking of getting an XM centre front due to the slightly higher pressure rating, is this still seen as a viable mod?
Also the heating system is not working at all, not matter what speed the fan is at just a small trickle of warm air. hopefully will be a case of the 'definitive heater mod'.
Paul296 you have PM regarding the wheel, bits of this one keep coming off in my hand!
Could someone PM me Alan Goodyears contact details so I can source those bumpers and gear knob.
Will post updates of any further progress/trials and tribulations made in a new thread in the gallery index.
Thanks for all the advice so far, I'm sure I will be asking for more ;-)
