Bx gti 16v's? Where are the sorn'd ones?

Post by Leobx16v »

I went on to how many left .com, and couldn't help but think where are these 90 something sorn'd 16v, now I know a few of you will have a few of them and maybe some are scrapped and not been notified and some 205 swapped but really there must be a handful of people that have and don't know what to do with them. I say this because I would love to put a few of them back on the road, I selfishly want all the different colours of the 16v but mostly want the black colour and want ph.2s it would be nice to find people who may not be on the forum or on it and in the future buying them to mint them.
But for now I guess I'll have to dream and mint the ones I have.

There have to a load of these sat on drives, in garages and lockups, and in fields. Just look at the number of previously unknown MK1's that have surfaced in the last year or so. While a number of cars would have been scrapped or broken for parts, there may be others that have been off the road for long enough to have missed SORN all together.

You need to SORN it yourself as soon as the logbook arrives.

You likely have to do it by post if you are a new owner, see link:

Never even thought to do it. Having checked the DVLA site, it clearly says "Vehicle Status" = Unlicensed Ooops, however, the v5 was wrong, so i had to inform the DVLA of the error, luckily as its a minor error, they agreed to just amend it & send me out a new replacement, & i don't have to mess about sending the old one back etc... :D

As soon as it arrives, i'll declare the car SORN via the web :)

Thanks to everyone who posted a response.

Depends. If the car was off the road prior to the start of SORN declaration it will come up as Unlicensed. SORN is designed for vehicles in use, that drop out of use. It is not back dated to the already out of use. However now SORN is once only and there is no risk of getting a fine for forgetting to declare a car, a prob when you have a lot of vehicles, it really makes no odds. My GTI is Unlicensed. The second also, despite its being scrapped to parts by the previous owner, so that is one on DVLA that does not exist. Given the nonsense involved in scrapping a car nowadays there are going to be quite a few records without cars stacking up. Some might keep the docs in their name, but I prefer to distance myself and 'sell' the car to John Smith of Hadrians Camp or other suitable travelers site.
