Wanted: Driver's door, Red

Post by jamescarruthers »

I'd like a driver's door please.

It must be rust free.

I'd like it to be in Sunrise Red, which is a Mk. 1 only colour. it's for a BX14E so shouldn't have the black paint around the surround.

Alternatively, in Venetian Red so that I don't have to paint inside of it, just spray the outside.

And really alternatively, any old colour, I suppose, if I have to paint it anyway.

To be even more picky, I'd prefer one with a manual window winder mechanism.

You can swop the internals over from any doors James, the chance finding a sunrise red one is pretty much NIL as it was only available on Mk1 and most of those left seem to be blue or white.

If it were me I would get Mk2 and get it painted and then swop all the bits over, its fiddly but doable.

It's a gonner because of two faults. The previous owner blocked up the drain hole with Waxoyl, I think, so that's the back corner gone. It has also been hit at some point and poorly bashed out.

Other than that the car looks mint now!

OK James, someone on here will have a door on here. I guess if you can get a venetian red bare door that would help. Ive swopped door sover, amother pair of hands is ideal, and to strip as much out of the door before you remove it, as your car has manual windows and locking thats easier!

Do I take it off by knocking out the pins? One of mine looks poorly so should be replaced anyway.

Yes mate. But lubricate the pins beforehand, and remove all the trim, windows etc if you can otherwise they are heavy and unwieldy when the pins are removed.

A assistant would be ideal!

If you can get a pin removal tool it would be ideal, sometimes a punch and hammer and they just pop straight oit, but ive had some that you have to destroy to get out.

Seconded for a pin removal tool - it's difficult without it to avoid paintwork damage.

If you get really stuck I have an early Mk2 base model door (manual window, no rubbing strip) in white, although I'll have to double check the shell's good.

Hi James, they may still be one available as in THIS F/S thread, however as its coming up to nearly TWO years since the initial posting (don't hold your breath) ?

Good luck !
