X Rally 2014 - Sunday 27th April

Post by mds141 »

Hi guys. It's just come to my attention that this years X rally isn't being organised by the usual people for some reason.

I know it's slightly short notice, but myself and other CCC members are trying to re-organise an alternative. So here's a list of questions to gauge interest:-
1. Same venue as previous X rally's.
2. Preferable dates.
3. One day, or two.

I'm sure there are other questions will become apparent other time and any opinions are welcome and valued.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Patrick for organising previous successful and enjoyable X Rally's.

Many thanks. Mark and the organising team for the X rally 2014.

Good point Mike. I just presumed it was on, but I've just looked on the CCC site and it doesn't mention it in the events section.

I was wondering about the mysterious absence of this not-to-be-missed event from the CCC mag and website. Back in the dim and distant past (last summer sometime) Barry Annells kindly offered his workshop for a tech day the Saturday before so we can make a weekend of it, will have to check with him whether that's still a possibility/whether dates suit.

Had an email from Franklin, saying they have no plans to host an X Rally this year. Which is a real shame as I thought they were great.

I know after our little disagreement over that TZD Patrick said he wasn't planning to do the X Rally again and that's the way it seems.

So! Who's up for organising one?

Me! I'm sure there's a few of us who would be happy to team up to make it happen?

There isn't an X Rally anymore unless someone else organises it!

Much like the way Patrick hasnt had any CX's etc for sale for a while too then, also now not organising the X rally.

Is it maybe that the old Citroens arent as profitable anymore? I mean he is a business man after all and a business man who isnt making the money they want from an area surely has to move areas?

Maybe the ready made sales forum of the club cannot be used to peoples desires anymore?

Am i being harsh? No i dont think so.

A club of enthusiasts is not a ready made market to sell into, they are a club of enthusiasts, its a shame that people feel the need to abandon it because people who are free to voice there opinions do so.

In his defence Mat, although Patrick and I havent always seen eye to eye over certain things but he has organised the X and CXM Rallies in the past and put his hand in his pocket many times for trophies etc so on that point he should be thanked.

I dont think theres the money in the likes of CX's anymore as you say as big thirsty cars are still not fashionable and prices are low (SD1's like mine are a example) so I think he is retiring, which if I could at his age (he cant be any older than late 40's) I would...but car dealers rarely hang their glasses guides for ever so maybe he will trade a few bits here and there.

We need to find out if the CXM will go the same way as loosing thatt and the X will be a great shame as there was always a good buzz.

Tim,

Im sure there is a more prosaic approach than the one ive spelt out and yes retiring is one (and a good one if you can amange to have accumulated that much cash by that sort of age)

I hope people can understand that from the outside it looks a lot like...

'Ive not got the same captive market as i used to have and i shant bother if there isnt the money to be made'

We dont do this for money, if there was money in the rare and unusual citroens ive owned over the years (last count approx 200 odd citroen cars - remember im a private individual with a full time non citroen job)

we do it for the love of them. If thats not enough for some people, thats a shame.
