1992 White TXD Free

Post by MULLEY »

Unfortunately i believe the head has cracked or at the very least it needs a new head gasket. That coupled with the amount of rust underneath means that due to me not having enough mechanical or any welding skills, it would be too expensive to fix & keep on the road

I hope someone can come & collect the car & either fix her up or break her & use the spares to keep others on the road.

I'll be keeping the alloy wheels with winter tyres on, i'll put the steelies from the tzd on it. I'll want the hydraulic pump as these are getting scarce. The stereo & parcel shelf with my 6x9's & front door speakers i'll also want. I'll be more than happy to transfer the TZD parcel shelf over. I'll be keeping the battery as i'll need it for my TZD.

The interior is immaculate, no fag burns & i wet cleaned it when i 1st got the car & it still looks like new, it will need a hoover though because of general use. Spheres seem ok & are genuine citroen one's from westroen.

If anyone has got any questions, please ask.

The car will need shifting asap, & will get scrapped if no one is interested as i don't have anywhere to store it. I also won't be breaking it up for any few parts that some of you may want, i just don't have the time tbh. Remember, its got 2 replacement octopi on it from only a few years ago, that is worth alone over £100 & would be well worth recovering. Front struts & those elusive rear struts, if i had the facilities, i'd be keeping them for myself, but again time etc.....

Cheers

End of an era, i'll have to change my avatar piccy as well

Mulley is it not worth trying a can of K seal? ive heard good things and have experience of it keeping cars going for a long time. (My mums Rover 25 for the past 5 years)

End of an ERA. You have certainly had your moneys worth out of it though and has been a trusty stead.

Are you breaking it or passing the car on complete? Im confused, if you remove the hydro pump then its fate is kinda sealed unless someone can swop you one.

Shall we see you using the TZD as a daily drive or will you get something else.

When does the MOT expire etc.

Theres NO ambiguity what Matts plans are for it Tim and as the title implies its FREE !

Hopefully someone may rescue it with a HP pump/swap and sort out the H/G welding it may need ?

To clarify, the car is free, however i will be removing the items that i've mentioned. If someone did actually want to save the car, i'd need to charge for it in order to buy a new battery & for losing the pump, the stereo stuff will be removed regardless as its all non standard good quality kit.

TBH i think its fuxxed, the rust underneath is pretty dire, put it this way Shaun said it was the worst one he'd ever seen. Front subframe has a hole in it & 2 large cracks. The rear looks bad as well :( Realistically a car with only a 1.9n/a engine with over 168k on the clock with rust is unlikely to be resurrected, its not even the cost if you could do the work yourself, its the amount of time you'd have to spend on it, & its never going to be a show car ever.

If someone wanted it for spares that at least would be a positive outcome, but if no one is interested then scrapping it will have to be.

An alternative is, if anyone wants some parts & is prepared to visit & remove them yourself, that would be fine, but i can't be keeping a wreck outside my house for a few weeks whilst its being butchered & there's no way its going onto the drive when oily water is oozing out of it. At the mo its parked outside the house on the road, i do live on a close which at least is a bit better than a main road etc....

K seal sounds interesting, however, the radiator must be blocked & thats why it overheated & i've never changed a radiator (i've got a spare though, from memory isn't it the same one as a Gti 8valve?). Strange thing is though, neither the amber or red lamp of death came on, all i got was the STOP lamp along with the radiator symbol. The system pressurised within a couple of minutes of the engine being on under tickover, water was pissing out quickly from the radiator. I spoke to a citroen specialist who after i'd described how much noise the engine made when i fired her up & how much white smoke was coming out of the exhaust, his conclusion was that the block may well have fractured. Would K Seal actually work on something like that?

Any interest or some indication of whether a rad change & some k seal is worth trying?

Changing a rad on a 1.9D is a piece of cake Matt, is it worth having a go, flushing it and replacing the coolant first?

Then if its not that try some K seal which is less than £10?

Block fractured? not heard of that but Im no expert, sounds like the headgasket may have let go possibly.

If that was the only thing needing doing, then i'd give it a try, however its knackered underneath, so its doomed.

Because i need a car urgently, i've gone out & bought this barge to replace it: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... ?logcode=p" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The C5's aren't a bad car and it's got the best engine, I've had two myself and Tbh I couldn't fault either.Very comfy and a great daily driver. A few on here might not agree though [-X.

It's Ugly, but is more refined than the TXD was, that & i'll be needing a big car very soon, so thought i may as well. It does need a few jobs doing on it, but hopefully it will be a reliable one. And it was cheap :D

Hi Matt,
Don't beat your self up, IMHO the C5 Estate isn't that bad/looking proportioned, however the saloon is damm 'Fugly' the back end just looks waaay wrong

Also as already stated by 'bxzx16v' you've chosen the best HDI engine, so I'm sure it will serve you well !

But don't go burning the veggie oil with this one as you'll kill the fuel injector pump in no time !

Good luck with it, you may need to join up on the FCF site (If your not already) for more informed info on the C5's (If it does let you down the odd time) !

Congrats on the C5 purchase Matthew. IMO the C5 estate is a fine looking beast, much nicer than the saloon. :)
