Headlamp covers

Post by demag » Mon Mar 17, 2014 4:39 pm

Are there rubber covers fitted to the rear of the headlamps? The back of the bulbs are open on the auto and there is condensation in the o/s headlamp.

You should be able to find covers that do the job at the local scrappy, although I'd also check the sealing of the headlamp glass, as they're known to fail to the point where the glass falls out.

I doubt the condensation is getting in from the bulb opening, i suspect it will be on the front of the headlight which with age where the glass is glued on with that white stuff, it gets brittle with age & cracks & lets moisture into the light. Best to take the headlight off & check how secure the glass is, it may just pop off the headling unit, in which case you can give them a good clean & then use some builders caulk to re-glue the glass back on, guess how i know this ;)

I seal mine to keep the water out, either repaired or otherwise. If there is an area water can get in, and its cold, the freezing forces the joint apart. No water ingress, no failure.
