Possible breaking of BX 14 TGE

Post by adamskibx »

I have got to a point now where I cannot afford to run my BX, and nobody wants to buy it, so I thought maybe I should break it for spares. The 1.4 (1360) engine is the best bit using no oil or water in spite of 101000 miles. Does anybody have any suggestions or parts they would like? It's metallic grey.

Other parts that are good:

Bonnet,
most panels, doors, wheels/tyres (3)

Hydraulic parts

Red herringbone interior

Probably others too

Thanks,

Adam

Yup. Problem here is that most already have at least one, often many more, so finding room for another is a struggle.

Or folk are entirely skint, which I am.

If you do break, and I am not suggesting for one moment you do that. Saving a car is obviously much better. I would definitely be interested in the interior.

Do you know the paint code?

I don't think it should be broken either. Almost any BX is worth saving these days. I actually might want to hold onto it but also might have to sell. The insurance runs out tomorrow and until I get myself another job I won't be able to afford to renew it, so as of now it's going to stay still until I find a job or sell it to someone who is going to make sensible use out of it. As for colour code - it's been welded over, which is good or bad depending on how you look at it. Here are some photo's of it to show the colour. I painted the wheels black as I seriously dislike aftermarket hub caps, and this has peeled off somewhat on the O/S rear wheel. As you can see from the last photo the top N/S door hinge needs welding and i now don't dare open that door as it will more than likely fall off.

No you can't break that. It's lovely. Same colour as mine I think which is Gris Axinite if memory serves.

Thanks - no; it is too nice to break up. The colour, when I bought it, I decided to put up with it but it has since grown on me to be probably my favourite colour for a BX, maybe after metallic blue. It's got it's foibles and at the moment I don't have the money to put it right, and it is in desperate need of a service as it's the only car I have ever had that I have used more than I have maintained-a testament to the TU engine series. The only failure I had was a gearbox differential failure, and I bought a second hand box for £60. In a way, I prefer it for it's rough around the edges look, but it wouldn't take much to make it really nice. Just needs bumper attention, original wheel trims, spheres up front, engine bay detailing and repair of hot/cold climate carb air switching equipment, a new steering wheel, and a re-do of rear arm bearing replacement on one side which went wrong, but is technically working 100% correctly in spite of this error - I basically had not done a rear arm bearing for years, and in fact never a BX one, and once opened up I thought the outer race of the bearing had crumbled away as it was so worn, but in actual fact what had happened was that it had rusted to the arm and I hadn't done my planning, so put the bearings in over the top of the old race, and as they are exactly the same thickness as the dirt shield or whatever you call it, I was able to make it function as a bearing should with no free play, and in some ways, until the dirt get's to it it's better because there is more distance between inner and outer bearing making the forces on each less, but I am not happy that I made such a blunder or it and want to correct it when I can.

That's a nice car in need of TLC. If I didn't have 3 BXs already I'd be interested, but I'd be after a little variety if I increased the collection (a distinct possibility at the moment)

I have decided that I am going to try to hold on to the car because I may need it soon and would not be able to afford another one for some time, so it will be laid up to rest for a little while. Sorry to anyone who was interested.
