Anyone ever...

Post by Stinkwheel » Tue Apr 22, 2014 11:56 am

Dropped a fuel tank on a BX14?

I need to drop the tank on the tesco value BX as it has a mystery leak from somewhere on its top end (im assuming its fuel pipe has gone with the unleaded fuel, just wondered how big or small a job this was (as ive never dropped a BX tank ever)

Have you checked through the peep-hole under the back seat first?

The pipes are all accessible there and a new one can be threaded through to join up with the steel ones if you unclip and drop them a bit first.
I have zero patience for your tedium.

Not if it's held on with screws! Or in the case of a BX: Superglue, sellotape, blu-tac, gaffer tape, staples, P40, epoxy, string, nails, drawing pins, more glue... ----^

I have had the tank off mine. Assuming their all the same its fairly easy to get off (assuming the 5 bolts come undone). The hardest part for me was getting the height linkage off so the tank would drop. But personally I would try doing the pipes from above before dropping the tank.
Although if you dropped it you would have a good excuse to look for lurking rust...

It doesn't stop the back box firing out the back of the car when it breaks off at 70ish mph on the M5 though

Miraculously yes. I heard a couple of large bangs as it broke free, followed by a flapping sound which was the back bumper where the end mount had torn out. It was only when I was attaching an elastic strap underneath after pulling onto the hard shoulder that I realised the back box was missing. I looked back down the motorway in time to see the back box flicked into the verge (again without hitting another vehicle. I count myself very lucky that day!
