XU9 1.9 carb cylinder head needed

Hi all,

Need a 159A (or 19TRS/19TZS will do) cylinder head for the GT. Some clown has put an injection version on it, which might go some way to explaining why it's so woefully down on power!

Anybody?

Would there be any Pug's which may also have this version fitted? Hopefully if there are it may widen your search window in order to locate one.

You'd be looking at the 405. My Dad had a 1.9 GR Carb once. It has to be the same engine I would have thought.

They they did an XM 2.0 carb aswell, but they are quite rare?

Is a 1.6 head any different? I assumed it was just the bore/stroke between the 1.6/1.9.

Worth a try.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

It's likely a head from a 205 Gentry/GTi auto or that sort of thing that's currently on there; an MPFI version but with smaller valves, like the carb XU9 head. Most MPFI XU9 heads have bigger valves (BX GTi/TZI etc).

A head from a 405 1.9 or BX 1.9 is what I need. The XU5 heads are slightly different so wouldn't gain me anything as they'd alter the compression ratio aswell as have different size valves.

Less chance of finding a 2.0 carb head than me walking onto the Big Bang Theory set and humping Penny during a rehearsal.

A bit of a non fact as it's a rare classic in itself but the 305 had the same engine I remember. You could try one of those websites that automatically fire off an email to scrapyards, if such a site exists which I think it does.

im fairly sure i have a petrol XU something head lurking in a corner somewhere, that i could donate for a fee :shock: :roll: :wink:

can remember what car it came from though,

can you give me any hints on marking on the head, or other ways to check which head i have here

Measuring the valve head diameter is the easiest way. Should be 33mm for exhaust and 39.5mm for inlet. Lift was 10.3mm, if you can turn the camshaft.

ok Kitch

i managed to dig the head out today,

i measured the valve heads across the face with the valve fully open,

exhaust 34.53ish
inlet 41.59ish

lift measuring from head face to head face = 10.38

Hi Malcolm,

Is it definitely a carb head? They're bigger valves than the GT usually has, but that I can live with! If it's definitely a carb head, I'd be very grateful for that. In fact, I might have it anyway as if I have trouble finding a carb head then I still need a new one as the old one is really badly pitted.

as far as i recall it will be a carb head, as i dont remember dismantling/scrapping an injection engine,

you are more than welcome to drop by one day for a cuppa, chat and check out the head,

Hi Malcolm,

Sounds like a plan. I was only in E.Sussex the other day - bugger!

Easy way to tell is the intake ports - they're square if it's carb, but if it's injection they have a little scollop cut out at the top for the injector nozzle. I'll have it in any case, you sure you want nothing for it?

it must be injection then as it has almost pear shaped ports
