Spare parts assisrtnace please

Post by Mike Holdstock »

I am looking for the "cylinder" - cast (?) aluminium cylinder that the rear hydraulic sphere screws in to on a 1992 BX 16 sedan. I've been told I can buy a new one for £180 in Swedeland but reckoned someone might have a better solution here.

Anybody got any ideas? Swedish scrappers seem to have run out of this item.

OWNS a life-threatened BX16i and delighted with it (but poor relationship with test station)

HAS HAD 88 BX19GtI (dead)
HAD 89 BX14RE which was still motoring very well at 280.000km when there was too much rust (gone)
HAD about 5 GS (first 1978) in the 70's, 80's and 90's, loved them, would dearly have one again.
HAD a DS Break - Succumbed to the rust of ages..

I don't think new ones are available over here, but you may be able to pick up a 2nd hand one. Alternatively, a Xantia one will fit with minor modification to the lug the hydraulic pipe screws into.

Mike
Thanks, I am trying a few UK online sources. I'd heard about the Xantia possibility, will see if I can get the real thing first.

All and sundry

Just like to give the good news that Swedish 1993 model dark blue metalic BX 16i Millesime with reg POJ 741 and ID XBHY0002HY0701 passed the Swedish MOT today without a bat of an eyelid. The engineer inspector commented that some of the hydraulic pipes were looking a bit tired (both rubber and copper) - but what's to be expected after 22 years and 200k kilometres?

Many thanks to much support here and not least parts, advice and ideas from Cliff/rutter123.

Felt great to be back in the compactness of a BX today after a couple of years with the Xantias. Sense of cosiness and nearness.....

And long may she roll..... another 8 years and then classification as vintage - and no road tax any more!

Its noticeable that the prices of BXs on the local sales sites are definately rising as the number becoming avaliable falls.

Merry Chrtistmas wherever you may be!
