H-reg Red 16v spotted at the Mid Hants Railway 6/9/14
In the field car park at Ropley. Somebody else enjoying a few old diesels? Should have taken the BX but as Laura now seems to prefer driving the BX to the C4 I was in the new C4...

Hope you enjoyed yourself as much as I did, the two 37/9s double headed in the evening were, to use an over used word, awesome.
That said the gala was much "quieter" than the last one I went there to about 10 year ago which ran very late and had some drivers exceeding the 25mph speed limit.

Re: H-reg Red 16v spotted at the Mid Hants Railway 6/9/14
Yeah I had a good day. Didn't stay late as we took the kids. Bit of a lame turnout for me as I wanted a Deltic like last year, but I do like the sound of those 37's.
Last year it was Deltic, 08, 20, 33, 37, 47, 50. Those numbers may all be wrong as I'm not too clued on up train classes
Very kind of you to say the BX was still red though, when I know it's now pink

Quite why anyone would want to see a Deltic (55) is beyond me... Sadly none were planned for this year and a few people were upset that the Class 40 didn't make it because of "gauging issues". But then railway enthusiasts are prone to a bit of whinging!
You seem remarkably clued up on the class numbers! The little Class 24 was nice this year but really looks so old fashioned now.

Ha! Don't read too much into it, I only learn them from my Dad. He loves the Western (52, I think?) Bought him a driving experience for it at the SVR. Did sound good, and we had the immediate carriage behind it all to ourselves which was cool.
What's the difference between a 37 and a 40 then? They look the same to me!

I've driven 37254 on the Spa Valley Railway and am still trying to get a go on my favourite Deltic D9000/55022.
At first glance 37s and 40s are quite similar but the 40 is longer, heavier, has 250 more hp at 2000hp and has 8 wheel bogies (1CO-CO1) compared to the 37's 6 wheel bogies (CO-CO).
