Honest John

Post by Thread Bear »

I have always liked Honest John. I used to aid him when he was published in The Telegraph and needed info on Micro and Light cars. Of course now he has a really useful resource website offering info and advice on all sorts of cars, including a limited range of Classics.

I had cause to look up a 2008 Renault Trafic 9 seat bus/van thing, same as a Fox-Hole Vivaro and Nissan Primaster. My bud rushed out and bought one and I thought, ooo eer! I still do! Anyway looking at the Classics, Honest John has brought Citroen well up to date. He has always been fair to the BX and interestingly he has two entries. One for BX, the other for BX 16V. I do not find this to surprising, as it is clear to anyone with any sense that the valvers are going to be the option in demand as a fully recognized collectors car, out of all the differing options possible. It is left to the confirmed enthusiasts to pick out the best of the rest. So the process to single out the 16v in the media's mind has already started.

If you have not found Honest John's website I can recommend a sniff round during an idle moment. You will not agree with all he says I expect, but as a reasonably independent resource it does warn you away from some clunkers.

Honest John isn't a man, it's a team. I could be wrong, but I think Keith Adams used to be editor, hence the BX content.

Yup. Honest John just seems to be a brand these days, though 'Honest John' does still seem to video reviews on occasion. Really crap ones. Keith Adams was, as mentioned, the Honest John Classics chap. He's now handed the reins over to Keith Moody who was on Practical Classics.
