Worn wiper motor spindle

Post by rutter123 »

The main ouput shaft on the wiper spindle is worn almost to an oval, you can see the movement under the big plastic nut, for now.is ok but will need some work or replacement soon, any suggestions guess its to replace the whole unit?

Any out there?

Not unusual I think. I changed mine on three out of five so far, the high milers. I think the one at Haynes Scrapyard has its one still but it is off the car. I thus suspect its no good.

Mine was quite badly warn when I got the car. I had it drilled out & re bushed.

Someone near me supplies all sorts of bushes. His shop is Denton engineering, Talbot Road, Hyde. He does all sorts of bearings & oil seals too, & most of the time he's quite cheap. Although he can't get everything for a BX.

I know the feeling, this is the one i took off my BX in the summer

Image

The shaft was between 11.9 and 11.6mm so i assume the hole should be 12mm, mine was 14.3mm at the widest, no wonder it had worn out the motor flapping around like that!

For reference, there are more pictures here

i had never measured the spindle diameter, although i think it is machined down in the middle section, so it only runs in the bush at the top and bottom ends
