What I don't get is they pull it out of a garage, ask for twice weigh in price or threaten scrap it!!!

It needs saving and the fact it runs and lifts is great, although I wouldn't drive it anywhere until the belts are changed.

Is it grey?

TBH Tim, he could have asked a LOT more if he had the time and space to store it! £250 is bloody good and just because it was a barn-find doesn't mean he got it for free.

Most of all, I'm surprised you of all people are criticising someone with no attachment to the marque making an effort to try and save it, instead of just weighing it in! Don't want another potential GT out there eh?!

Someone with space will take it no doubt.
I have zero patience for your tedium.

That's my point jay, he's made the effort to rescue it and good on him, surely a little time spent cleaning (a quick wash wouldn't take an hour) and taking some decent photos would make it sell and probably for more money! (I have no issue with him making a few quid for his efforts).

My point is just pilling it out, leaving it on a trailer for a few days then scrapping it is pointless as it would have been better off still in the barn.

I do hope it gets rescued, and FYI i am delighted another mk1 has resurfaced as there just isn't enough of them now, there wasn't 1 Mk1 at the X Rally this year which was a real shame.

My current car number is 8 and if it grows any more I will be in bother!!

Hi guys, just joined up so thought I should introduce... I'm the guy who bought this bx gt. It is being delivered to me on 30th/31st of this month so until then I don't know the true state of the car. I bought purely because I couldn't see it get scrapped or broken for parts, and now my mission is to get it sorted and legally on the road, albeit on a very limited budget. So will be posting up every now and then asking for help or parts! Wish me luck guys :-)

Hats off to you for that mate, welcome aboard.

First things first, if it's not rotten and can be restored change the cam belt, tensioner and waterpump immediately!!!! as they are way past their expiry date and if it snaps it could make the project unviable.

Also the tyres will be shot but 165/70 14 aren't expensive.

I have a GT myself and they are a great drive, torquey, smooth and very comfortable.

For insurance I recommend Footman james.

Thanks very much for the heads up :-)
Do you have any pics of your GT Tim? And also, do you have any idea of where I can find more info on the GT, or is it fairly hard to find UK info on it? I can only seem to find French or Australia info, wanted to find UK spec info so when I come to restore it I know what is what

Have a look back through my blog mate, there's plenty of BX mk1 brochures around, the GT came in two forms, the early ones had a tweed interior, gt badges on the wings and a on board computer at launch in 1984, a year later they changed it to a all black CX turbo style interior, no computer and the wing badges were dropped in favour of side tapes.

Shame I'm not allowed another car, I'd snap that up in an instant. You can't even get a running Fiesta for £250 so that's a real bargain

Brought mine out of storage tonight ready for the northern, the Mk1 GT is in my opinion the best BX to drive....period, light responsive and really comfy.
