BX Turbo Diesel radiators and hoses - available soon!

Post by KevR » Thu Aug 27, 2015 9:30 am

As some may remember, a while back I sent a set of BX TD hoses and radiator header tanks off to the mystical East (China, not Dagenham...) to the same firm who make the all-alloy rads and silicon hoses for GTis you see on Ebay.

Just had some pics from them of the first protoypes, so here they are:
The rad is 50mm double core, same as the GTi version. Only thing I can see wrong at first glance is the overflow pipe fitting (to header tank) appears to be missing. I've pointed that out to them. Planning to get a rad and set of hoses sent to me to see if everything fits, then all being well they should be available direct from the makers - prices tba.

Hoses available in black, blue or red.

My t/d will be needing one soon, the white crusty deposits on the bottom corner are a sure sign its on its way out. Will these be priced in line with the gti rads on offer?

Should be, yes. Waiting for confirmation but AFAIK they should be about the same.

I'd be very interested in a set of hoses and a new rad or two just to have a spare just in case  :)

As soon as I've trial-fitted a rad and hoses, then I'll come back and we can put together a group order.

Quick update - two rads and sets of hoses have turned up chez moi - I'll try and fit one set to the grey one this week if I get a minute, to make sure there are no immediate problems with fit etc.

That's overkill isn't it when silicon hoses will be impervious to high temperature heat anyway?

I remember when we got silicon cable for the soldering irons, you could wrap the cable around the hot parts without it sustaining any damage. 8)

Right, update time....

I've dry-fitted the rad and hoses. Mostly good news - they've made one of the lower mounting spigots too big, which is easy enough to modify, but I'll let them know about that and they should sort it for production versions. Otherwise the rad itself seems to fit pretty well. Naturally once fitted it's hard to show it in pics but here goes:
