Power steering leek!!!!

1989 Bx estate with power.....I got fluid leaking from around the spindle..... As in where the column enters the steering rack.....firstly I believe there is a repair section available but then I discover it's nearly £140 plus vat! So what's the answer? A second hand rack? Any thoughts? Any help?

The leak will be from the pinion valve seal by the sounds of things. It unbolts from the rack and is replaceable (that's likely the bit you've been quoted £140 for.) It is possible to overhaul them too. I've got a recon spare somewhere in the garage, and a used rack that I could be persuaded to part with.
