About extreme modifications - Like putting a PRV or ES9 engine in a BX

Post by Slagtrooper »

Tried to look for something like that, only found one topic about it - A Break with an ES9 in a Netherlands forum.

I like original, stock cars, of course. Nothing better than a well maintained ride, everything in order. But on the other side, bizarre modifications always fascinates me. One of them is putting a bigger engine on a BX, like the V6's ones. Engine bay looks big, top engine mount places seems the same and saw some photos of ZX's and even 205's with PSA V6 engines. So the doubt is: Is there some way of putting a V6 in a bx with minor modifications?
On the netherlands mod, the owner heavily modified the front subframe for fitting it and that disencourages me about thinking about. PRV is wide because of the cylinder angle, ES9 looks narrower. Anyone of our gentlemen ever done that once?

I like it :D

An ES9 should fit in place of an XU engine in a BX as the mounts are the same.. It would be lovely too 8) No mount mods should be needed at all.

I'm currently, albeit slowly, putting an ES9 V6 into a Xantia Activa. That's relatively straightforward as there were V6 Xantias produced...

The nice thing about the ES9 is that it's a very compact engine for a 3.0 V6.

Read about it here http://www.activav6.co.uk/

Putting a PRV V6 into a BX would be a bigger challenge... It's a big old sprawling lump. Just see how it fills up an XM engine bay!

I'm sure a V6 BX has been done... I believe an ES9 has even been fitted to a Visa!

Yes, there was a thread about it on the Visa forum a while back.

Not sure if it ever got finished though...

I don't know if reading this replies is good for me or not. Now i will dream everyday of swapping the engine for a V6 :o

Maybe someday i will try it, as my BX isn't full original anyway. About PRV, i can accept the fact that it's more difficult to fit it because of the cylinder angle?
It's because i like engines with chains on timing. Chains, less valves - Easier to deal, tougher to fail.

Would make the front end very heavy i would have thought, i have seen somthing before an Eastern European guy fitted a xantia v6 into a bx with a lot of mods to sump, subframe, h/p pump and pipes etc etc, a major challenge, ive had similar thoughts using a toyota 2.0 vvti celica lump, but thats as far as it got.

AFAIK, 4hp14 autobox weighs like 80Kg, so: Changing auto to manual will help with the extra weight from the ES9 (Someone put it on a suspended scale and its weight was like 180 Kg in a 205 GTi drivers forum). I think it will be 30, 40Kg heavier at least. If someone got the money, could order a custom carbon fiber hood for ease at the weight issues.

But you got a point: Weight issues (and power too): Tuning its brakes is a must.

For a 3.0 V6, the ES9 is a very light engine... They only become heavy when mated to a 4HP20 autobox!

3litre V6 Extreme? More like carry over.

Now this is more like Extreme. Take BX 16valve with Mi16 engine, apply super charger, remap stock ECU for a smidge short of 250bhp
