BX spotting in northern France/Normandy

Post by deltic »

Recently managed a few days away in France and the initial quick spot of a Traction between Dunkirk and Bergues and being badly tailgated in a downpour by a 1950s Peugeot on the A1 was about all of the older cars, so quite disappointing.

A few 2CVs were seen with about half a dozen in Paris, most of which seemed to be tourist rental cars. It was fun to see an orange 2CV thread its way through the traffic around the Arc de Triomphe. C5s and C6 were numerous in Paris, with about 10 C6s in use as limousines outside Le Meurice hotel. And we also saw one C6 in use as a (comfortable) police car!

BX wise only three were seen, one of which (with those non-Speedline alloys) nearly ran me over as I was trying to photograph the massive dump of around 450 SNCF locos at Sotteville. Most interesting looked to be a green 16v I caught out of the corner of my eye at the Citroen garage by the D200 at Compiegene. However I have an idea there were no green 16vs, so perhaps a Hurricane?

On the ferry back on a trailer was an absolute wreck of an Olcit 11R Club being imported to the UK by a Romanian who said that he was going to restore it and had restored others. Intriguing?!

I seem to remember seeing a green 16v (UK) at Rutland Water once when I was doing an Inland Championship. The owner and fellow sailor had changed the rear badge - 16 Valve to the French version 16 Soupape.....

Not sure they were very common though as I can't remember seeing another. It may have been other vanity like sticking the badge on an 8V GTI but I don't think so.
