Full set of good Speedlines (grey, 6j)

Post by djoptix »

Selloff continues.

In addition to the pair that belong with the red 16v, I have another good set of grey 6j Speedline alloys which are surplus to requirements because I'm using C5 steelies for the track car.

Very good condition. Looking for £120 for the set. Tyres are scrap though, I think - will double check but I'm fairly certain they have UV damage.

If you are willing to post these, at my expense, I'll have them, PM me a paypal address and I'll get funds sent in the next week or so :-)

PS I've waited three years to get a set of speedlines for my valver, now I'm getting two sets in one month - boom!!

Yes, sorry for the late reply. I can post - not sure how the best way would be; put them on a pallet maybe?

Let me know your thoughts. If they're going on a pallet I guess I'd leave the scrap tyres on to protect the wheels in transit.

However, Dadad, these wouldn't strictly be correct for a GTi as the originals would have been 5.5j but these are 6j. As close as you'll get though...

I'm new to BX ownership. Could you explain the difference between 5.5 and 6j for me please. Also, will 5.5 fit just as easily ? Is the alloy design different between 5.5 and 6 ?
If I collect, where are you based ?

The difference is in the width, you may need to pull out the rear arches with the 6j sized one's, easily done as the metal is quite thin anyway. 5.5's are silver in colour, the 6j's are either silver or the dark anthracite colour with the outside of the rim diamond cut.

Hello, just logged in for the first time in ages having completely forgotten I was meant to be chasing these up. Apologies for the delay. I will be able to take some pics next weekend.

Dadad, the phase 1 16v came with the silver 6j ones, whereas the 8v gti at the time had silver 5.5j ones. The later phase 2 16v had the anthracite ones with the shiny lip. Generally the anthracite ones are most common (though they're all pretty rare), the 6j silver ones next and I'd say the 5.5j silver ones are the hardest to get hold of.

They don't fit the other way and the previous owner had it set up as a track car.

I managed to find a good set of original 6j wheels now.

Just the bolts to find

Car was set up to handle neutrally in the dry. You need the wider tyres on the front to get rid of the standard set up understeer. This car slides beautifully on all 4 in the dry in the current configuration and will make the first bend at Goodwood at 100mph, about 15mph better than the standard set up!

Check the clearance on the big brakes on the front. Not sure you'll get them under the standard wheels!
