How long have you owned your BX

Post by Gary »

Going through some paper work I found out that I have had one of my BX's 17 years this month and the other one 8 years in February .
So I was interested in how long others had owned their BX 's

I had the 14RE for 15 years and 175k, til she was an attempted theft and they cooked the head gasket of a leaded only engine...unfortunately scrapped not long after though her seat belts live on... Wish I still had her for parts now.
The Athena No 1 I bought in 2004 and she is still here only just rusting away as a donor, well not quite she's still repairable. After her 2nd write off, I bought another Athena No 2 in 2009 which is still going - just about. Oh and the Auto Meteor this autumn, but she's not been MOT'd yet though should pass, she may have to, f I can't get the Athena No2 through.... All the same 1.6 B2C engine note with Solex carbs, last of the pre cat buggers.

Well, the wife has had her TXD for 20 years! Now done 289,000 miles. Mine, about 8 years, bought as a derelict mess. OK for £200 I suppose....I've now done nearly 50,000 miles in it.

For me its a bit academic as I moved to the other side the planet and was unable to bring a BX with me due to the frontal impact standards that came into force in 2001 in NZ. Basically had a BX since 1989 bar 3 years I was hunting one down after moving to NZ. Technically according to NZTA records (they send me a reminder each year) I still own the first BX we got in NZ for 9 years. Although its no longer roadworthy and in bits scattered around the Garden, sheds etc. So I guess the real honour now goes to the 19TRS picked up for $300 with intention for parts for the first one (how ironic). That has been with us 7 years! Roadworthy but hardly used with 303k kms on the clock. Second place goes to the TXD of 4 years.

11.5 years for me as well, and 135k miles. By most people's standards that's quite a long time, but not compared to some on this thread!

Its 16.5 years for me and the GTi and 13.5 for the TD Hurricane. Mileage in BXs during this time is 254K.
I still have at least one BX in regular daily use but the increasing demands they make on my time to keep them roadworthy have made me decide to reduce the BX fleet to just one and have some modern tin on the drive for daily use.
The current favorite BX replacement is a mini. This will happen next year sometime.
The Joy of BX with just one Citroën BX to my name now. Will I sing Bye Bye to my GTI or will it be Till death us do part.

Apologies, for the thread hi-jack, Jaba, i can recommend the Cooper D proper BMW engined 1.6 units, i've got a clubman & its not only great fun to drive, but very pokey for 112bhp & will do 60mpg with no real effort. Or are you thinking if buying one of the new 3 cylinder engine'd one's?

I owned the TXD for about 7 years & put approx 90k onto it, not bad for an e-bay £300 motor :) I had the 8v Gti for approx the same amount of time, however it was off the road for most of those years, but i did sell it for 3x more than i'd initially paid for it, still wouldn't have covered the amount i spent on though, haha....
