Might be worth trying a local motor factors Tim. They might still be available new.

Last time I bought some new ones in GSF they were 25 quid or so......

Look on the continent Tim. There are quite a few odd ones out there so you may have to buy a n/s and o/s separetely. Having spent some time sourcing a latch/door mech, to find one in Thailand! I've seen quite a few BX bits on various sites.....

It's not like I agree with the price - it's high - but I paid £30 a pop for my new Valeo/Cibié about a year ago... And they don't come up that often. £55 each well might be what they are worth today: Supply and demand. I think as the BX gets older the cost of 'new' parts will climb in proportion to their rarity. Shame the seller won't even enter into negotiations though!

If it's not for a show car, why do they have to be new?

True but new headlamps and upgraded bulbs make a huge difference to night driving and it brightens the front of the car up,

That's one down, one to go!

Yeah, because you drive your car day & night, rain or shine Tim

I'd play around improving the various connections and earth points if you want to improve the performance of the lights. Function over form, and all that :)

I changed the ones on my old car (in 04/5) because the glass separated from the body, and even though I stuck it back OK the silvering was past best. There was a significant difference with new reflectors, same bulbs.... made a difference round me as most roads are unlit and tight, a lot of single track with passing places and you need to know wher the potholes are. However as I do around 8-12k pa for mileage I'll bet that's a bit higher than Mr Leech's BX mileage....

If I could find a cheap o/s one I'd change the ones on the Athena, I've got a half decent n/s.

I can sympathise with Tim- I must say a pair of brand new lights look great, and of course they are brighter especially with good, enhanced bulbs. Trouble is, because they're shiny new, pricey and relatively rare lights I fit plastic protectors over them which dulls it all a bit lol! Of course, improving the wiring and powering the lights properly via relays and so on (Kermit's the expert, not me!) will be the next step - if for no other reason than to overcome the effect of the covers...

I saw your athena the other day, the psgr side headlamp inside was in pretty good nick & just needs a clean & some new glass fitting, the other one whilst not as good isn't the worst i've ever seen, but i'd be inclined to replace that one if you must. Looked good except for the boot rust, should be a nice motor :)
