Fuel tank sender unit...

Post by Philip Chidlow » Fri Jun 10, 2016 12:21 am

My BX's tank is just about full and - as has sometimes happened on and off - the low fuel warning light is constantly glowing orange! So is it the sender at fault?

Almost certainly.

You can either buy a new one for around 50 quid, find a secondhand one that's better, or:

Strip down the one you have and clean it

The bottom one is straight from the tank, a petrol - diesels are usually much worse.

Once stripped you simply clean the rheostat strip with wire wool and reassemble ensuring there's no swarf left behind. Good as new.

The assembly is self explanatory, the only difficulty is from removing the aluminium can from the outside, simply insert a fine point or screwdriver into th 3 tabs in the top and gently prise them out one at a time. It really is straightforward.
I have zero patience for your tedium.
