Manual mirrors

Post by Richard811 »

Hi

Here's the reason I'm tapping into this wealth of knowledge.
Recently bought my first bx. It's a 1988 16rs estate.
Just failed it's mot (just meaning recently mot'd and only just failed on a few points)

One point being the near side mirror. (Manual)
Can anyone try and explain how i get the old one off?
Haynes manual says to just remove the mirror trim peice to unveil the screws...but I thought I'd ask before breaking something.

Thank you

To remove the complete mirror, it involves removing the door card. If memory serves, remove the speaker grille and speaker, two screws under the armrest and one under the door pull I think. Use an implement to prise off the door card and you'll see the mirror is held on by a couple of screws.

Job done.
You weren't wrong. Remove the speaker panel for 2 more screws alon the bottom.
There were 3 in the door handle altogether. Also unscrew the door lock/unlock nob thing.
Running my fingers round the door card so no scratching with a tool.
Fiddles bit was getting the card round the inside mirror adjuster lever but the card is plastic so bends.

Thank you again
