Wanted MK1 Lower speedo cable

Post by saintjamesy89 »

Hello all, I am having difficulty in finding a lower MK1 speedo cable. For those who haven't, MK1 cables go through the drivers side of the bulkhead (as opposed to the passenger side on MK2s) so the lower is longer than the upper. The upper is new and spins the speedo needle when twiddled, but the speedo still doesn't work when driving - so either the lower cable is busted or the connector is gone.

Anyone have/know of one for sale? Cheers.

Thanks Tim. Onanother note the GT came with a MK2 lower cable. Could I get a MK2 upper and fix it that way rather than hunting for a MK2 lower? Would be a lot easier as chevronics have them.

Have you got a part number for the cable? If not, look on cit service and get one and let me know. I've got a few odd cables lying about which I haven't got round to identifying, so you never know.

Don't know what cit service is? Googled and couldn't find it, nor could I find a part number on google anywhere. Any hints Kev? Cheers

It's Citroen's online parts ordering system. You have to sign up (free, but I seem to remember you have to pretend to be an independent mechanic or something) and then you can acces the whole parts catalogue, which lets you see firstly what are the correct part numbers for your car, secondly whether they're still available (and how much from a dealer) and also to cross reference and see if that part fits another vehicle. Gives you lots more options for tracking down parts on Ebay etc if you know the part number and what else it fits.

It does take a little whgile to get your head round how the sit works, and how to search for stuff, what it's likely to be called and where it's likely to be grouped (some suspension parts come under 'front springs' or 'rear springs' for example, even though there's no spring in sight! It will also help to have your ORGA number (on the left front A pillar) in case of uncertainty over exact build spec/date.
