Reservoir needed.
Apart from the window issue below, the evening before the MOT the wife pointed out that the front bumper was leaking LHM. I pointed out that this was unlikely. She replied that unless squirrel blood is green, oi were wrong.
One serious explore later, it turned out that the leak was definitely the green stuff and there were no pipes where it was starting from, directly under the reservoir. I took out the tin bowl and drained it and thoroughly cleaned it. Holding it up to the light you could see a tiny pinhole.... cock.
My local welder had a look and reckoned the metal was too thin to take even his smallest torch. Not rusty, just too thin. Brazing was silly money and has to be 100%. There's gripfill, or fibreglass. Or - does anyone have a spare one (without pinholes) floating around?? We may yet get to the MOT and pass. 300,000 miles is within our grasp now.....

Re: Reservoir needed.
Could it be drilled and a small nut and bolt with a fibre washer under the head be used to seal it

Can't be too thin for gas welding?

Re: Reservoir needed.
Yes, I think a bolt would do perfectly OK, and no-one has yet said that gripfill or fibreglass won't. However, as the thing is off the car anyway I'd rather not take a chance as there may be another pinhole waiting to occur - there isn't that much rust in the bottom, just the odd tiny bubble, but any one of those could be ready to go. As for gas welding - not my area of expertise, but here in rural Somerset finding ANY welder is a bonus! Anyone got views on whether this is a good bet on thin steel? I''m going to take up Rutter's offer , and keep the old one for backup.

Yep, too many sprogs and grandsprogs down this way, it had to happen really. I intended to change it but I can't find a way to do this, I'm sure there used to be a button you could access your profile with but it seems to have gone. What me do wrong?

Re: Reservoir needed.
This is nothing new as LHM does not absorb water, but it separates to the lowest point where there is no flow in the solvent. This is also why there's the plastic badge in the reservoir, to settle the flow and let the water go to the bottom. And obviously, this is the reason the LHM MUST be changed once a year or per the mileage.
I suggest a new reservoir, where there is no black dot in the lowest part .

Re: Reservoir needed.
Yes, arrived yesterday and I got it on this morning. Car is now running again! Many thanks. text to follow. It took a bit of work to get the beast to bleed up, but I got her up in the end, by trying the trick of blowing down the cap pipe that runs into the wing. And waggling the steering gently.
