Why is it...
..there seems to be plenty of Haynes manuals for petrol BXs on eBay and none at all for diesels? There is a seperate manul for diesels but this is for the engines only. Do I need a petrol manual for info about the car/hydraulics/bodywork etc and another for the engine?

Yes thats right - 1 series of haynes for the car and petrol engine and another for the diesel engine and strangely enough the Visa - presumably put there to pad it out a bit.
If you are buying the best car manual is the last edition of the brown covered manual (copyright 1995 on 2nd or 3rd page) The later blue covered one is an edited version and is not as good. much the same goes for the diesel engine - the grey one had the TD in the supplement and is slightly better than the later blue edition.
Having bought new of both when I got the car I then found the old ones in charity shops for a total of £3.
