1989 BX 16TRS autochoke/carb problems

Post by cjpat »

Hi,
new to forum and BX ownership and looking for some help.
have 1989 1.6 with auto choke and possible over fueling problems.
Suspect carb has been fiddled with in the past and now it doesn't idle well. Plan to either replace carb or send carb for proper rebuild.
Have looked at forums comments on changing to manual, but keen to keep auto choke if possible.
welcome thoughts and advice.
Thanks
Craig

PS - anyone know where i can buy a set of 1989 TRS wheel trims ?

Depends what sort of carb you've got. I would guess it's the Solex Z1.

Much of getting it to run right is down to the setup of it, but also worn linkages etc can cause autochoke issues. I would confirm it runs properly without the choke first, by removing it and then manually warming the engine up with the throttle until it'll idle and drive correctly. If it won't, the issue probably isn't choke related.
The chokes can play up, though. It's all in the setup.

Ha! I've not driven any of my BXs for a good few years now. Really need to change that!
