RHD is the stumbling block. Plenty of good BXs in France, eg on Leboncoin.

Re: Gti wanted. No project cars please
Just curious on the work involved.
If push came to shove and a perfect condition lhd one came along. What would be involved/ time cost etc
Do theyshare the same chassis / engine bay etc
Probably no one has done this conversion

Re: Gti wanted. No project cars please
A good old thread ↑.
It's one heck of a lot of work, more complicated and expensive than a thorough front-end strip and re-build of a given car.
The parts that need re-positioning, replacing, etc etc include such delights as
- steering gear
- complete dash and all its wiring
- hydraulics (steering, brakes...)
- pedal box, pedals, and operating cables
- under-bonnet stuff
...
Unsure about UK, but such a car here would have to undergo technical inspection and certification for it to become road-legal. Insurance company would need to inspect and approve, too.

Not trying to persuade you to go for LHD, but if an LHD car were acceptable for you, there is a much better - and rust-free - choice of BXs to be had in France.
When I was looking for one for us at the end of last year (my brief was Ph.2, diesel, manual, with factory-fitted A/C) I found just 5 in Spain, but more than 80 BXs to sift though in France. Knocking out the non-A/C cars, I got invovled in looking at three of the Spanish ones: one seller was crooked, one car (local to me) looked as if hungry goats had been living in it (chunks missing from the dash, and broken plastic everywhere), and the third - a rather tasty turbodiesel, GTi interior, green velour - never replied to any enquiry.
Turned attention to France, and whole new ball-game (on the Leboncoin website). Prices anything between €1 and €3800, with lots of choice. Cars with A/C narrowed it down to about eight. Homed in on three, and bought the 19D Millésime for €990 from a seller near Marseille.
The LHD ones have a lot going for them, including a shorter clutch cable, as well as two very generous dashboard gloveboxes (topside and lower), located where the instrument pod and steering goes on RHD.
Personally, I don't have a problem with driving 'wrong side', both of us having been doing that for years. XM here is RHD, BX LHD — you just adjust to it quite quickly. Really not trying to persuade you...really...

Still drawn to this one

Looks tidy under the bonnet in the pictures. Awaiting pictures of the underside.
Shame no air con
Also looking at another private one from a FB Citroen group.

I would avoid 4wd. They’re quite fragile and parts to fix are practically extinct.

I am not an expert, though have heard that mentioned by a few people
Apparently the splines on prop shaft and transfer box are no longer available anywhere - unless second hand.
Shame they can't be custom manufactured

Someone did look into it recently but the cost was astronomical.

Sadly still looking. Down to one potential at this time. The red one coming up for auction in April. Rust free by all accounts. Nasty wheels and no air con.

Don't be in a hurry — a good one will turn up, and one you don't have any reservations about. Keep looking.

Re: Gti wanted. No project cars please
You may have to be realistic about rust- all BXs will have at least some. The ones that don’t have any rust are now in the hands of owners who will be hanging onto them.
