Do tell more about the SD1, Tim.
My last Rover was a P6 3500S, which I fitted with an SD1 5-speed 'box.

Two BX excursions today, the second one to collect a receiver-dryer and PAO68 oil for the A/C. R134a adaptors arrived this morning.
Gave the BX a quick wipe down and went for a 45minute spin.
Despite not knowing about the cam belt history.!!!

Dropped it off for a cam belt change and a bit of fettling on a few small items. Then off to Chevronics to collect new front Spheres. Back home now. Cupo of tea time.
Lots of driving, though in a hired Toyota C-HR. Which is surprisingly good.
Good enough in fact to tempt me to pop to the Lexus dealer tomorrow to see what SUV Hybrid offerings they have.......

I started replacing the rear speakers in mine over the weekend. They've been vibrating for ages, so I've had to make some new ones fit.
I thought the vibration is what makes sound

Yeah the rear speakers are rubbish all mine have turned to dust so I just nipped the cables under the back seat to stop them rattling. Thinking of fitting some tweeters in place of and a flat driver somewhere in the back
They are a strange size like 2 1/4 inch
What size did u find to fit?
90 BX Tzd turbo 294k SORN undergoing major surgery
90 BX Tzd turbo estate 46k awaiting surgery
65 Peugeot Boxer Van the new workhorse
52 Toyota Rav4 180k Bulletproof Jap reliability
The rear speakers are very small - effectively just upper-mid tone/tweeters.
They just conceivably improve the stereo image in the back seat. Front four do the donkey work.
BX yesterday took us both up through the mountains to a favourite restaurant - a birthday lunch.
Today, some local shopping.
A true daily!
Cam belt, tensioner and water pump changed today
New front spheres installed
Much better.
Rear spheres ordered
Need to find a bottom hose now. So many to choose from.
( which runs on cam belt side) it’s been rubbing. Possible a common occurrence.
Wish I had my Haynes handy

Generally yes; vibrations are what make sound, but the noise that was coming from them speakers wasn't audible, it was just vibrating, rattling & crackling.

Mine had completely disintegrated too. I don't think they were that great even before they turned to dust.
The ones that I've fitted are out of an old house hifi system; they're 2" I believe, so smaller than the original ones, but they fit nicely in the original brackets all the same. Here's a picture of one so you can see how it fits.

Installed my new standalone apple play display. It works perfectly. Now need better speakers. 30yr old factory ones are well past it.
