Citroen BX 16 TRS, Mark 2, 1986, red, sunroof

Post by andycadabra »

Citroen BX 16 TRS, Mark 2, 1986, red, sunroof .
Kept for spares and off the road since 2001, when I bought my BX TZD, which lasted me 18 years.

Damage on nearside rear wing , but car body seems remarkably rust free, and no ripples in wings and door panels. Both front and rear bumpers are typically faded, but undamaged. Interior in poor condition,
Cannot remember condition of engine. It was certainly driveable but may have had symptoms of head gasket failure,
something I experienced two or three times on my TZD which has clouded my memory somewhat!

Missing -
near side rear door,
perspex 'window' which is part of nearside rear pillar,
rear lights,
drivers seat,
unable to locate keys.

Car can be viewed at CR0 8AS.
Trailer would be needed for removal.

Offers please!

Sad to see one in that state. I think you'll struggle to get anything for it, to be honest, other than a token crate of beers or something. The costs and hassle to recover it would be sizable.

If you can find out the RP/ORGA no., I can run a check in the register to see how early a mk2 that is. It might be something like the earliest mk2 16TRS known, which would increase the desirability somewhat.

Thanks for your input Kitch. I have an idea it was first registered in August or September 86 but I will look for that RP number. I've noticed that new bumpers sell for about £200 each on eBay so maybe the best thing is just to remove those and scrap the rest, but nearly all the body panels remaining are dent, ripple and rust free, so might be of use to someone. Do you know if the bumpers are easy to remove? . Cheers Andy

Good luck with the sale.

Re: bumpers, are you sure they “sell” for £200 or are just advertised at mad prices by car breakers who end up putting them in the bin. I can’t imagine ever paying any more than that for a bumper. Last one was probably £50 some so that I bought.

Sadly 16's aren't the most desirable less so when it its engine is dead and the interior is f####d if the shell is solid in all the right places then it may be of interest to someone, but as Kitch says removal costs will well outweigh the cars value, unless Yr local scrap metal guys will take it away for nothing.
Unfortunately another one left to naturally biodegrade.

Rutter - The doors been off about 18 months.
jamescarruthers - I had seen some new bumpers on eBay priced at £200 'buy it now', but I accept that the going price for second hand ones is probably around £50 as you say, but definitely worth the trouble of removing before scrapping the car. It seems that as long as car is complete with engine, gearbox, wheels and battery I will get £148 from scrap dealer, who'll collect. I thought I'd offer it on the forum first, but scrapping seems the way to go - hoping there's no catch!.
Kitch date of first registration 5.8.86. will try to find RP number shortly

Bits maybe worth salvaging if Yr scrapping it
Interior b pillar lights
Front window motors
Glove box if the door is intact
Headlights
O/e radio
Radiator
Alternator
Hyd pump
Opera window (very rare)

Bumpers aren't worth a lot I threw some in a skip not long ago cos I couldn't get rid of them. Unless they have fog lights or lower splitter.

Thanks for the useful list, Rutter!. It would seem that BX drivers have been fairly careful, in order for bumpers to be in such low demand...
By the way the car behind is a Ford Consul Capri from '63. Misspent my youth customising it, low rider style, and then it got so rare that no one knew that I'd customised it.. Hoping to find a good home for it this summer.

No car in the garage!
Why are the opera Windows so rare? Surely they last the lifetime of the car? And why does Wikipedia only list the mark 1 as having them?

They are rare because they were unique to the bx fitted to only a few models of which most are long gone and no-one makes a replacement (I think Rob at Chevronics may have a s/h one) but they are hens teeth, to the right person prob worth more than the car.
I'd certainly try to remove it tho not easy by all accounts.
