Interference Engines

Hi all, been trying to find out whether the engine in my 1986 BX16TRS is interference or non-interference? None of the web refs I Googled show results for Citroen. TIA Brian

The anecdotal evidence is that when the cambelt fails valves get bent as a minimum and the camshaft can and does snap at the same time.
Call that interference if you like. I call it infernal bad design.

1.6 XU engine is definitely an interference engine. Change the cambelt at the proper intervals and you need not worry.

Correct me if I'm wrong, years ago I had a mk1 vauxhall astra 1300 cambelt snapped due to seized water pump
No valve or cam damage, new belt and pump job done.
Or was I just lucky?

My inference would it was a non interference engine. You never get lucky when there is a breakdown
