A little optimistic......

Tell us about BXs you have spotted on the road, or BXs/parts spotted for sale including eBay finds.

That, I'm afraid is rather optimistic, I agree.

Start at £100 and it might get to £250-300. But it's not without it's problems, is it?

Low mileage (if genuine) is on it's side. Never seen rust at the door lock before.

£300 is its money I think no more, nice condition but a bit spartan.

Looks like it's been forced at some point in the past, and the paint has broken away, hence the corrosion.

It is low mileage, and it's in reasonable condition.... but considering I've just picked up a similar age BX DTR turbo in similar condition for not much more than the cost of a tank of fuel, it is indeed very optimistic.

Especially as it's probably the least desireable model in the entire BX range. A low-spec MK2 BX 16. No thanks.

when we all seen this car we all rightly or wrongly, thought it was optimistic, BUT IS THAT RIGHT. Maybe we are pesimistic, I have advocated for a long time now, on the 16V forum, and now here, that if we as followers of the marque do not believe it is worth it, then what are our cars worth?

I agree, and there are instances of BXs still reaching a price higher than we would collectively have expected... but even if BX fans like ourselves think a BX overvalued, what is Jo Public going to think? We have to continue this debate, because it affects us all. I think it might be a good idea to have a detailed pice guide thrashed out, taking into account what cars actually sell for, but also acknowledging the model's increasing rarity - well the rarity of 'good' ones that is :)

I think the prices paid for some recently are incredibly low: for instance a couple of decent-seeming estates sold on eBay recently for what I consider a very cheap price. Even the 8v GTI auto that I placed a bid on but didn't pursue when out bid went for a low £135 - that's a straight car, with Tax and MOT!

Makes me wonder (as it would all of us I guess) what mine is worth...

More to you than anyone else mate, I work in the motor trade as you know and its depressing what older cars are worth, we advise people to dispose of older cars themselves to avoid confrontation lol.

Best not to think about it! if we all totted up how much we have spent on cars over the years (im a repeat offender!) it would really upset you lol

What counts as an older car in the eyes of the motor trade?

Normally anything older than about 7 years old really.

But still cheaper than "buying" a new one every 3 years in the long run.
Me, I like to run my cars into the deck prefering to keep them for as long as possible, spending what I have to - once they become beyond salvation they get run into the deck or passed on to some poor unsuspecting soul (just like the ZX)

I am sure that as BX's become more collectable (and they will) prices are sure to rise.

At present, I do not think you can value a BX on the prices quoted in price guides. The value of a car should be done on an individual basis taking into account variuous factors, esp cars belonging to members of this forum as most cars are way above the standard of cars of the same age.

The higher spec stuff is going to fetch stronger money, like the 16V or the TZD. I still think 450 is too strong for a boggo spec 1600 petrol.......
