Good morning everyone! I finally completed the rebuild of the 1.9 engine (XU D2E), but I don't understand how to tension the timing belt correctly. Reading the workshop manual, it seems that an "electronic" tensioner was used, but obviously I don't have it... any suggestions on how to tension it correctly?
Looking at the XU engine manual, it seems that the tensioner adjustment cam must be placed horizontally... so does this mean that I correct the tension by acting on the bolts that hold the tensioner, correcting with the cam if necessary?
Unfortunately the procedure is not clear to me, I hope you can help me!

Re: BX 19 - How much tensioning the timing belt ?
Its the spring in the tensioner that decides the tension. You obviously used the cam to move the tensioner off the belt to change it. After releasing the cam the belt self tensions. All you have to do is turn the engine clockwise to get the belt under tension and then tighten the two nuts - 6 in your diagram.

Re: BX 19 - How much tensioning the timing belt ?
Thank you so much Jaba for your help!
So to recap:
1. I bring the tensioner cam vertical (down), tightening the screws that hold the tensioner in place.
2. I turn the engine clockwise so that the belt settles.
3. I unscrew the screws (6), by doing so the spring puts tension on the belt, then I tighten them to 1.5 DaN
In the conditions of use of the car, the cam (4) remains vertical with its locking nut (8) tightened to 1.5 DaN, correct?
But then..that cam (4), is only used to move the tensioner away from the belt once you have unscrewed the screws (6) that hold it in place?

Re: BX 19 - How much tensioning the timing belt ?
You have got it. But leave the two nuts 6 loose and the cam not engaged with the tensioner then turn the engine and then you will get the maximum tension on the right hand side of the belt. Then tighten the 2 nuts when you are happy that all is well and finally lock the cam in its vertical not engaged position. You might want to recheck the timing when its all tightened.
