One of the things which I think lets my 16rs down is the clock on the display instead of a rev counter.
I've seen an instrument cluster / display advertised from a 1.6 petrol with rev counter and considering buying it.
I had to change the coil recently and think the signal for the rev counter is picked up from there.
Could anyone advise if swapping the instrument display over from clock type to rev counter is a straight forward job or one of those best not attempted.
I would also like a temperature guage but guess that would have to be mounted somewhere separately, maybe I could mount a separate rev counter in the same pod
Any advice on this appreciated

Re: Changing instrument cluster / display
I can't help with rev counter sorry but I fitted a temperature gauge using one of the two lights of death sensor ports. The gauge came in with a bunch of spares that came with the car but similar are widely available.
Scroll down to near the bottom of the page and ignore my first attempt of placing the sensor.

I'm sure there are off the shelf adaptors but I like to go with with what I've got and make things difficult for myself
One thing I need to do is move the gauge up as the steering wheel obscures the view slightly where it is.

Re: Changing instrument cluster / display
A temperature gauge is an invaluable and I would say essential thing to have. When I have put a gauge in diesels I obtained the standard BX temp sender as this is matched to the dash gauge.
For the rev counter diesels have a sensor on the flywheel. I am not sure about petrol engines but I seem to remember its picked up from the dizzie or the ignition module or more likely the 12v on the ignition coil. Check a wiring diagram in Haynes if you can to see how its done.

The Joy of BX with just one Citroën BX to my name now. Will I sing Bye Bye to my GTI or will it be Till death us do part.

Re: Changing instrument cluster / display
Thanks for replies and link to previous thread it's given me a head start.
Pretty sure when looking at wiring diagram after coil packed in I saw a terminal for rev counter which is redundant on this car.
Thinking ahead really, still got rust in roof to repair.
I did get a pair of rear head rests off ebay to cheer myself up though
