Yours are probably shagged. There are three of them. On an old BX, the cam cover end one can be half an inch shorter, the gearbox end one a good quarter of an inch. The horrible one in the middle is the most usually changed but the outer pair are really well worth changing.
Firstly, the car's vibration signature drops noticeably. Secondly, the engine, being hung correctly doesn't move around randomly in the engine bay. That's good for handling. Driveshaft angles are good, changes of direction more direct and clutch take up smoother. Above all though the improved quietness and smoothness are well worth having.
Further advantages? Better sealing of the intercooler on TD models, less torque steer and a better gate feel for the gear lever.
