The orange plastic on many an old BX is giving way due to plasteoporosis. The distance from the bottom of the stick to the shoulder where it abuts the filler cap is exactly 50 centimetres so if you are going to repair it, that will be the number that saves any doubt. NB. During the last world war, under occupation, slave labourers for Citroen marked the dipsticks of the lorries they were making for the Germans far lower than they should have done.
