1984 Mk1 16 TRS interior upholstery + general insight

Post by Jugostran »

Hello!
I've just stumbled upon an advert for a 1984 16 TRS. The car looks decent (though someone decided to repaint the wheel trims and wheels in body colour for whatever reason), however the interior has me scratching my head. I genuinely cannot tell if its some sort of dealer-installed seat cover set, or just a really shoddy reupholstering job. If anyone can give me some insight, it'd be greatly appreciated.

EDIT:
I'm also curious as to what all you Mk1-owning think of this one. It's not perfect, but I feel as if it's better than my current Mk2 - plus it's a (fairly early) Mk1 so it's naturally superior. :D

Looks like a 80's attempt at colour coding - going all of the brown

Considering it has less than 50k km, it's most likely these "modifications" were done when the car was new.

It looks lovely to my eyes, IIRC the interior/seat materials of the early MK1's doe snot wear well at all - perhaps this was an attempt to hide/replace a ruined/worn interior?

Wow that is one colour coordinated BX. Not to be used with children or dogs I think.
The Joy of BX with just one Citroën BX to my name now. Will I sing Bye Bye to my GTI or will it be Till death us do part.

It's possible that the original materials simply fell apart...but it only has 50k km and doesn't seem to have UV damage? No idea what happened.

Hah, yes!
Now this is just a guess on my part, but what I think happened was the car had a small shunt back in the 80s, which resulted in the bumper needing painting. However, whoever was doing the painting clearly got carried away slightly and expertly painted all the wheels and wheel trims for peak 80s appeal.

I really think it was one of the owners fed up with the faded and fragile seats going to town on the colour coding it was an unfortunate trend in the eighties. Only one way to find out is to lift the aftermarket covers an see what lays beneath.

Hit the nail on the head with that one. Though the car overall does warrant an additional gander in person I think. Because the things which actually matter look alright (though those C5 spheres are slightly concerning). In comparison with mine, this one actually looks to all be in the same colour thankfully.
