The day before the MOT I detected a slight clicking and found a little bit of play on the inner CV joint on the near side drive shaft. No mention of it during the test but to make the job a bit easier, and less messy, I sent for a replacement drive shaft from Autodoc. It arrived yesterday but I noticed it had the toothed ring for ABS and as the GT doesn't have ABS I sent a query to the supplier to confirm if the new shaft was suitable. They replied this morning with a long winded email in the negative. So my question is has anyone fitted an ABS driveshaft to a non ABS car or can anyone direct me to a supplier of the right one, also a part number I can quote to make sure.
I gave Autodoc the cars VIN but it wasn't recognised on their system so the weren't able to confirm the correct shaft.
Cheers
John

Re: Drive Shaft
I’ve got ABS shafts from a GTi in my car & they don’t cause any issues.
On some shafts, you can knock the ABS ring off if it bothered you, but not on all. If it’ll fit, then I’d just leave it.
Hope that helps.

Re: Drive Shaft
That's promising, thank you for the info. I might just go ahead and fit it. I was more concerned whether the bearings were the same for both shafts but if they fit your car then sounds OK.

Re: Drive Shaft
I can confirm that they are exactly the same shaft. The ABS ring is mounted onto the outer CV joint which is a universal fit. If it bothers you you could put the old CV joint onto the new shaft. Although sometimes this is not possible because the shafts have a different number of splines.
I would just fit and forget the new shaft as it might be the outer joint that is clicking.

Re: Drive Shaft
All done, went on with no issues - except I kicked the oil tray out of the way and spilled some
but caught most of it. A gearbox top up tomorrow then a test drive.
The clicking developed onto a rumble over a very short period and inner joint practically fell apart when I took the old shaft out.
There was no sign of any issue prior to the occasion just before the MOT and there was plenty of grease in the joint, just unlucky I guess.

Re: Drive Shaft
Gearbox oil topped up and a test drive to get some logs shows a success, no more rumbling
