New Member Seeking Help With BX16 TGS

Post by Donsompie »

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen.
I am new to this forum. I acquired a BX16 TGS (H738 YRN) a couple of months ago. The gentleman I bought it from had issues with it and ended up fitting a new distributor, which then required the ignition timing to be set. During the timing process the starter motor gave up. He got fed up, and that’s where I come in and purchased the car.
There’s a Citroën specialist near me (Liverpool), so I thought they would have no issue with it. However, it is an old car and someone (a previous owner) has clearly been in it, and the garage are struggling to get the thing running.
So my question to you esteemed ladies and gentlemen is this: Is there anyone around the Liverpool area who is knowledgeable when it comes to older model cars that I can take the BX to?

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your purchase.

I’m not in the north west but I’ve heard good things about Westroen in Manchester, if they’re still going: https://m.facebook.com/spheres897/

There’s also a chap called Keith Davis who posts on the BX Facebook group who is based up there I think.

Good luck!

You could try TE Murphy in Widnes. I've not used them for repairs but take my GT there for MOT. An old school garage that looks a mess but has great reviews, very knowledgable and the owner used to work on BX's so might be worth a try.

Welcome to the forum by the way :D

Thank you for the welcomes!
I’ve now picked the car up from the garage I originally took it to. Their diagnosis is that the previous owner fitted the wrong starter motor (the correct one has now been fitted). Because the starter was incorrect, they believe the distributor may also be wrong.
I think they’re simply very busy and needed to free up a ramp, and didn’t really want to get involved in sourcing parts for an older car. Fair enough — I can’t really blame them.
Thank you for the recommendation. I’ll drive past the garage in Widnes, as it’s halfway to work, and have a chat with the ladies and gentlemen there.
Much appreciated.

I've had some excellent jobs done on my BX 16 TGS Auto at Dave Ashworth's CITROEN SERVICES LTD in Blackpool. They specialize in the older hydraulic Citroens and generally have some beautiful cars on their premises. Very reasonable charges too, which always helps.
