Cigarette lighter replacement

Post by timbo »

Ok I'm back again.. the cigarette lighter replacement is slightly different than the original. Instead of having a shared "EARTH" with the body of the lighter. It has a separate earth wire. Can I jump this wire with the earth wire on the plug that fits the rear of the lighter power supply? If you know what I mean?? Also, the plug has 3 slots ie: power, earth and ???? what is the middle or spare slot ... is it an earth that I can use?? I think it is numbered 1, 2 and 3 on the slots.

Jumping it should be okay as long as you keep the centre contact positive, the extra wire is for the illumination.

thats what i thought. The light has it's own power supply (red wire) and the power to the lighter is via the plug. I only have to share a common earth. On the old lighter it has a built in earth in the light fitting. but on the replacement it has a separate earth connection. Just a bit of wiring to do thats all. Cheers :D
